Avoid these 7 common notarization mistakes in Massachusetts

IDs, names, initials, dates—use this short checklist so your documents are accepted the first time.

  1. ID doesn’t match the name on the document. Bring the ID that matches the printed name (allowing minor punctuation differences).
  2. Unsigned documents. Do not sign before we arrive unless told to. Many documents must be signed in front of the notary.
  3. Missing witnesses. If your bank, title company or recipient needs them, tell us when you book. You may bring your own witnesses. Witnesses from Kelly need at least 4 hours notice and are not guaranteed. If he cannot bring them, he tells you at least 2 hours before the appointment and refunds the witness fee.
  4. Blank sections. Fill non-notary blanks before we arrive, or confirm what should stay blank.
